Women Research Institute

Promoting women leadership and inclusive,
gender-based, and sustainable natural resource governance

Women Research Institute (WRI) is an independent research institution which uses a gender-based perspective with a focus on political, social, and cultural issues. Our programmes include research, publication, capacity building and promotion as well as gender budgeting. WRI’s research and programmes are strongly related to widening women’s access to resources and decision-making processes, increasing women’s representation in decision-making forums, and empowering female representatives in influencing the decision-making process. In addition, the projects aim to encourage women to participate actively in land management and decision-making processes related to land usage and management, environment, climate change, and forest concession. WRI employs feminist methodologies in its research and analysis.

Women Research Institute (WRI) works in partnership with Program Representasi (ProRep). ProRep is a four-to-five project on democracy and governance from the United States Agency for International Development (USAID).

As part of the series of programmes to enhance the access to reproductive health services as well as to get an overview of the current condition of the access to information on SRHR education for youths, WRI will hold a seminar under the theme:

PAMFLET in collaboration with Hivos and GWL Muda, and supported by WRI, is holding the International Creative Competition “Dialog Muda” (Youths’ Dialogue). This competition is open for 15-24 aged youths throughout Indonesia. Works submitted must adhere to the theme of HIV and AIDS, Sexuality, and Violence. The medium of the submitted Creative Work is up to your creativity – it may be in a form of sentences, paragraphs, short stories, poems, prose, comics, videos, or even songs.

20 best submissions from Indonesia will be included in the Global Dialogues International competition, where youths from Indonesia, Guatemala, and Kenya will be competing. One of the 20 best national submissions will be made into a short movie by a renowned Indonesian director.

This public seminar is WRI’s medium for disseminating its research findings on women DPR-RI members’ roles and forms of representation as well as gender equality policies to DPR RI members, CSO, and the public. Pursuant to its findings, WRI also gave a number of recommendations for the legislative process of the Gender Equality and Equity Bill, which is expected to be able to push for the ratification of the Bill.
