Promoting women leadership and inclusive,
gender-based, and sustainable natural resource governance

The Women’s Leadership Training Module is a guidebook based on a series of capacity building for women’s leadership held by Women Research Institute (WRI) in five selected areas, namely Padang, Deli Serdang, Mataram, Pekanbaru, and Jakarta. This is a follow-up from WRI’s 2012 research titled “Feminist Leaderships in Post-Authoritarian Indonesia in Influencing Social Movements and Its Correlation to the Improvement of Women’s Prosperity: A Case Study in 5 Regions.”

The research findings illustrate the numerous challenges that women’s organisations still face in realising their activities and programmes. Therefore, this leadership training module is published in order to make the advantages of WRI’s women’s leadership training felt more widely.

This book is the result of research conducted in seven WRI’s research areas, namely North Lampung, Lebak Regency, Indramayu Regency, Surakarta City, Jembrana Regency, Central Lombok and West Sumba. General public health facilities to serve women’s reproductive health remain limited in many aspects.

In the Shadow of Change is a study of literary works produced and consumed in Indonesia. In the Shadow of Change is an important milestone in the writing of the history of Indonesian literature. Through this book, Tineke Hellwig conveys her research findings of 5 years, ranging from 1984 to 1989, which is a re-reading of 25 novels and three long stories in the past 5 decades (1937 to 1986) using female point of view. Tineke takes feminist literary theory, which is rooted in social changes in Western and has been developing in the Western academic world, to make a critical reading of Indonesian literary works. Feminist literary criticism examines how the texts represent women; how the text defines femininity and masculinity, and how the text asserted, questioned, or criticized the ideology of gender. Feminist interpretation is part of the struggle against the dominant patriarchal ideology.

This Policy Research is WRI’s research report as well as recommendation for the involvement of women DPR-RI members in policy making. This policy research is a means for WRI to deliver inputs from its findings so that gender equality and equity, in particular the 30% quota target of women in parliaments can be achieved. This Women Research Institute (WRI) study attempts to see how the current women DPR-RI members are involved in the process of policy making, particularly policies that accommodate the needs and interests of women (gender responsive policies). Through this study, WRI also seeks to analyse the effectiveness of the 30% quota policy for women parliament members.

This policy research is a formulation of the outcomes of WRI's research, which was conducted for 18 months since August 2012. There is a debate between those who support the ratification of Gender Equality and Equity Bill and those who oppose it. Therefore, it triggered WRI to conduct this research and provide recommendations to synchronize perception of gender equality.

This book is the result of the thesis containing the discourse analysis at three levels; level of language, institutions and social processes, and subjectivity to understand the struggle of power relations in the construction and deconstruction of nationalism in Aceh based on Islam. This thesis examines oral tradition, practiced by women of Aceh today, to understand the resistance that women played in Aceh against the discourse that cast them from the political arena.
